Police probe york stabbing at the scene after two people died

A man was stabbed after his home in the Yorks area of Leeds was set on fire, police said.

They called it a "shooting" after two people were killed and at least three others injured when a fight broke out in the street in the village of Southend at around 4.50pm.

Officers later said the man was also attacked by a man in an unknown identity.

Another man was found suffering from a stab wound to the neck who had been taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries, while a third man and a woman who were also injured were detained at the scene.

Det Supt Paul Macdonald, of Greater Manchester Police said they were "working to establish the cause of the incident".

"While it is believed the man was involved in a dispute with another man in the street, this may have been connected to a verbal altercation," he added.

He added there were "a number of witnesses to both incidents. We are yet to confirm their identities."

Mr Macdonald said the victims had been treated at the scene. One man, who had suffered a stab wound, was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The two other men had been taken to hospital with stab wounds to the necks, he added.

In another incident, a man was injured after being beaten up by two men near Stockwell Road, Newcastle, at about 23:10 BST, Greater Manchester Police said.
